In response to the flooding that impacted the northern and northeastern regions of Afghanistan, IDDEF's teams in the country have mobilized to provide aid. In Baghlan, they served hot meals to 5,000 people, and on the first day, they delivered hot meals to 1,000 people in Burka via helicopter. IDDEF plans to continue daily distributions of 3,000 meals in Baghlan and its surrounding areas.
IDDEF, which is active in education and permanent works throughout the year in Afghanistan, noted that the Afghan government reported that the floods in Baghlan, Burka, and Nahreen have resulted in 300 deaths, the destruction of over 1,000 homes, the loss of thousands of animals, and significant damage to many schools, madrasas, mosques, and places of worship.
Announcing the continuation of emergency relief efforts in the affected areas, IDDEF stated: "The recent floods caused by excessive rainfall have particularly affected Baghlan, Burka, Nahreen, Ghor, and Herat regions. We express our condolences and well-wishes in the face of this tragic disaster and are working to heal the wounds by distributing meals to 6,000 people initially and continuing with 3,000 hot meals daily for flood victims. On the first day, we reached Burka, which was cut off by the floods, by helicopter to distribute meals. Currently, our efforts are proceeding by land. We are providing all the support we can in the affected areas."
