As the Federation of Associations that Value Humanity (IDDEF), which carries out multifaceted activities in Afghanistan, we continue our humanitarian aid, reconstruction, and revival efforts for the country devastated by the occupiers. Following the earthquake disaster that struck the region last night (August 31, 2025), we have launched an emergency relief operation in the affected areas.

According to initial reports, a magnitude 6 earthquake in the eastern province of Kunar killed 622 people and injured more than 1,500. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, and there are fears the death and injury toll could rise. We pray to Allah (swt) for mercy on those who lost their lives and for a swift recovery for the injured. As our teams mobilize to help heal the wounds of our friend and brother country Afghanistan, we continue to closely monitor developments in the region.

Afghan officials stated that the areas most affected by the nighttime earthquake were in Kunar province, adding that roads were blocked due to landslides and that search and rescue operations were being conducted with helicopters. Surrounded by mountains, Afghanistan is prone to earthquakes as it lies near the junction of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, an active seismic zone where major earthquakes have occurred over the past decade.

IDDEF is also standing by the hundreds of thousands of Afghans who had lived in Pakistan for decades but began to be deported as of November 1. At the Torkham Border Crossing, we provide hot meals and drinking water to migrants — especially children and the elderly — who, with only what belongings they could carry, are trying to enter the country hungry and thirsty. We do not remain silent in the face of this humanitarian tragedy.

We are actively working to deliver humanitarian aid to refugees who have crowded the Torkham border and have begun staying in tents set up after crossing into Afghanistan. With our mobile vehicles, we provide the hot meals and bottled water we have prepared to our migrant brothers and sisters crossing from Torkham. With at least 70,000 people having arrived at the border so far, we continue to stand by them with our teams.

As IDDEF, while Afghanistan, a South Asian country, has faced one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent years, where especially children face death due to hunger, we launched an emergency aid effort. With the support of our donors, we began delivering relief packages containing essential items to families in camps and to those in need in rural areas. After sending 50 tons of humanitarian aid via our trucks, we also contributed to the “Goodness Train” campaigns from the 1st to the 19th. On November 7, 2023, the 19th Goodness Train departed for Afghanistan.

Our country, which considers it an honor to side with the oppressed, extended its hand to Afghanistan through the Goodness Train. Within the scope of our campaign, food packages, winter clothing, and emergency relief items prepared with the donations of our donors were delivered to the region via aid trucks and the Goodness Train organized under the coordination of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
On November 7, 2023, 500 tons of humanitarian aid materials, supported by IDDEF, were sent off to Afghanistan with the 19th Goodness Train.
In Afghanistan, an ancient Islamic land that has been under occupation for nearly 20 years, the people have become even poorer due to a deep economic crisis and are waiting for help from the whole world. In the country of 40 million, around 17 million people are in need and struggling to access safe food. While our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan battle deprivation and poverty, some families, unable to find food for their children, are living in refugee camps. Many families cannot provide daily meals for their children, and children are hospitalized due to malnutrition. In the country, where the need for humanitarian aid grows by the day, the gravest crisis is the threat of hunger.

The economic crisis, rising unemployment, and increasing food prices make it difficult for millions to feed their families. As winter sets in, living conditions in Afghanistan are becoming even harsher, and a major humanitarian tragedy is unfolding in the war-weary country. With health needs unmet and families unable to find fuel for heating in their homes or tents in the aid camps, going to bed hungry is a disaster in itself. As IDDEF, within this scope, we deliver food and winter relief aid entrusted by our donors to the country.

Our donors who wish to deliver emergency aid to those in need in Afghanistan, where hunger, poverty, and the humanitarian crisis are at their peak, can contribute via our website "www.iddef.org".
