Following the devastating monsoon rains in the South Asian country of Bangladesh, IDDEF has mobilized to help heal the wounds and meet the urgent needs of our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster. IDDEF's field teams have started operations in the Begumganj and Noakhali regions in the country's southeast, distributing essential supplies for food and shelter to those affected by the floods.
The Bangladesh government has reported that the floods, which have hit the cities of Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Brahmanbaria, Chittagong, Khagrachhari, Begumganj, and Noakhali, have so far claimed 52 lives, and affected over 5.4 million people nationwide. Additionally, the government stated that more than 65,000 people have been left homeless in this disaster that has submerged entire communities.
In a statement from IDDEF, it was said, "Millions of people are struggling to survive due to the floods caused by heavy rains and overflowing rivers in eastern and southeastern Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh, our dear friends and brothers who are experiencing the worst flooding in the last 50 years, are urgently awaiting aid. We cannot afford to delay. In this context, we are delivering food parcels, hot meals, and tents with our teams on the ground. In the first phase, we are delivering aid packages loaded onto wooden boats to our brothers and sisters affected by the floods, overcoming the floodwaters in the severely impacted regions of Begumganj and Noakhali.
Benefactors can support these affected people through the website "www.iddef.org," or by transferring funds via FAST/EFT/wire transfer to the designated account numbers.
