Earthquake-Stricken Villagers in Afghanistan’s Barren Lands Won’t Enter the Harsh Winter Homeless! Just as we stood by our brothers and sisters since day one, we are now providing them with roofs over their heads through the support of our donors.

In the villages of Herat province, devastated by severe earthquakes, survivors awaiting urgent aid are hoping for their homes to be rebuilt as freezing temperatures and strong winds set in. As the Federation of Associations that Value Humanity (IDDEF), we launched the Herat Earthquake Housing Project. You too can support this project, which will provide warm homes for earthquake victims in need of shelter during the harsh winter.

Healing the Wounds Since the First Day of the Earthquake

On October 7, 2023, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Herat killed more than 2,400 people. With over 2,000 injured and 1,320 homes rendered uninhabitable, we provided 5,000 hot meals daily, distributed 1,000 blankets and 300 tents in the first stage. Now, with our permanent housing vision, we have launched the Herat Earthquake Housing Project to address the shelter needs of those who lost their homes. As our earthquake houses continue to rise, the sorrow of our brothers and sisters is turning into joy.

216 Houses Will Be Built

Each house will have a base area of 55 m2 with a 2+1 layout, and 216 houses will be built in total. The project houses will consist of 3 rooms, 1 kitchen, and 1 bathroom. Each unit will have two 15 m2 rooms, one 11 m2 room, a 6 m2 kitchen, and a 2 m2 bathroom. A 7.5 m2 outdoor entrance area will also be included. Each house will feature 6 windows to provide a bright atmosphere. Foundations will be laid in a common area with landscaping and walking paths arranged.
